7. Queen Khentkaus I
Queen Khentkaus Ist was the mother of the pharaoh Menkare who is attributed with construction of the third pyramid. Queen Khentkaus mortuary temple is located in the mastabas fields east of Menkare’s Pyramid and often this structure is called by its nick-name, “the great house”. A seated queen in simulacra is located on the right side of the entrance in the throne seated posture common to the Old Kingdom deity Auset. The same image of the seated queen is carved on the only remaining chunk of what was once a pink granite obelisk that stood in front of the temple. The simulacrum image on the east-facing doorway is most likely that of Queen Khentkaus in the form of Auset. Auset is a cosmic goddess associated with Sirius and consort to Osiris.
